Trauma and Protective Factors: A New Paradigm for Preventing PTSD

On September 12, the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work’s Center on Race and Social Problems opened it fourth year lecture series with a presentation by Dr. Carl C. Bell on mental health risk factors in people of color with a focus on how “risk factors are not predictive factors due to protective factors.”

School Board Passes Weak Restrictions on Recruiters

This summer, Conscience and the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) introduced a policy resolution limiting military recruiters’ access to students in the Pittsburgh Public School system.

In their report on the passing of the resolution, the AFSC reported the final version had “all the heart taken out.” Activists believe that pressure from the state and federal government played a role in defeating the policy rules.
